Inflation Reduction Act Rebates & Incentives
Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit
If you make qualified energy efficiency improvements to your home, you may be eligible for a federal tax credit worth up to $3,200 a year. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit (25C) is worth 30% of qualifying expenses for a variety of home improvement work, including insulation, air sealing, and heat pump installation. It’s often referred to as the heat pump tax credit or the insulation tax credit, but it covers a variety of services.
You can claim the credit every year you make qualifying home upgrades, through 2032. But there are annual limits that vary by service. The maximum credit you can claim per year is:
- $1,200 tax credit for insulation, air sealing, and other qualifying home performance upgrades
- $2,000 tax credit for heat pump HVAC systems and heat pump water heaters
Inflation Reduction Act Home Energy Rebates
The Inflation Reduction Act created two new rebate programs: Home Efficiency Rebates (HER) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR). Through these rebate programs, you may be eligible for cash back on home improvements that will reduce your energy bills, like insulation and air sealing upgrades, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, and much more. The Department of Energy estimates that these rebates will save American households up to $1 billion annually on energy bills.
Individual states are responsible for setting up these rebate programs. As of November 2024, Delaware has applied for funding to roll out both HER and HEAR rebates, and Maryland has applied for funding to roll out HERA rebates. Total Home Performance is watching these applications closely and will provide updates when rebates are available in our service area. BGE Rebates
As a BGE Smart Energy Savers Participating Contractor and Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® certified contractor, Total Home Performance is able to offer a free or reduced-cost home energy audit (a $400 value) for BGE customers. We’re also able to perform a number of energy efficiency and comfort upgrades with substantial Maryland energy rebates from BGE.

Delmarva Power Rebates
If you’re a Delmarva Power customer, you’re eligible for thousands of dollars in rebates for energy-saving home improvements. - Home Energy Assessment - Pay just $100 for a comprehensive home energy assessment. This is a $400 value—Delmarva Power pays $300.
- Energy Rebates - Get up to $10,000 in rebates for completing eligible home improvements, including insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, and heat pump water heater installation.
- 0% Interest Loans - You may qualify for 0% interest financing to complete the home improvement work recommended during your home energy assessment.

The BeSMART Home Loan Program allows Maryland homeowners to acquire up to $30,000 in low-interest financing for energy-saving home improvements.
